12 Things Happy People Do Differently
1. Express gratitude. – When you appreciate what you have, what you have appreciates in value. Kinda cool right? So basically, being grateful for the goodness that is already evident in your life will bring you a deeper sense of happiness. And that’s without having to go out and buy anything. It makes sense. We’re gonna have a hard time ever being happy if we aren’t thankful for what we already have.
2. Cultivate optimism. – Winners have the ability to manufacture their own optimism. No matter what the situation, the successful diva is the chick who will always find a way to put an optimistic spin on it. She knows failure only as an opportunity to grow and learn a new lesson from life. People who think optimistically see the world as a place packed with endless opportunities, especially in trying times.
3. Avoid over-thinking and social comparison. – Comparing yourself to someone else can be poisonous. If we’re somehow ‘better’ than the person that we’re comparing ourselves to, it gives us an unhealthy sense of superiority. Our ego inflates – KABOOM – our inner Kanye West comes out! If we’re ‘worse’ than the person that we’re comparing ourselves to, we usually discredit the hard work that we’ve done and dismiss all the progress that we’ve made. What I’ve found is that the majority of the time this type of social comparison doesn’t stem from a healthy place. If you feel called to compare yourself to something, compare yourself to an earlier version of yourself.
4. Practice acts of kindness. – Performing an act of kindness releases serotonin in your brain. (Serotonin is a substance that has TREMENDOUS health benefits, including making us feel more blissful.) Selflessly helping someone is a super powerful way to feel good inside. What’s even cooler about this kindness kick is that not only will you feel better, but so will people watching the act of kindness. How extraordinary is that? Bystanders will be blessed with a release of serotonin just by watching what’s going on. A side note is that the job of most anti-depressants is to release more serotonin. Move over Pfizer, kindness is kicking ass and taking names.
5. Nurture social relationships. – The happiest people on the planet are the ones who have deep, meaningful relationships. Did you know studies show that people’s mortality rates are DOUBLED when they’re lonely? WHOA! There’s a warm fuzzy feeling that comes from having an active circle of good friends who you can share your experiences with. We feel connected and a part of something more meaningful than our lonesome existence.
6. Develop strategies for coping. – How you respond to the ‘craptastic’ moments is what shapes your character. Sometimes crap happens – it’s inevitable. Forrest Gump knows the deal. It can be hard to come up with creative solutions in the moment when manure is making its way up toward the fan. It helps to have healthy strategies for coping pre-rehearsed, on-call, and in your arsenal at your disposal.
7. Learn to forgive. – Harboring feelings of hatred is horrible for your well-being. You see, your mind doesn’t know the difference between past and present emotion. When you ‘hate’ someone, and you’re continuously thinking about it, those negative emotions are eating away at your immune system. You put yourself in a state of suckerism (technical term) and it stays with you throughout your day.
8. Increase flow experiences. – Flow is a state in which it feels like time stands still. It’s when you’re so focused on what you’re doing that you become one with the task. Action and awareness are merged. You’re not hungry, sleepy, or emotional. You’re just completely engaged in the activity that you’re doing. Nothing is distracting you or competing for your focus.
9. Savor life’s joys. – Deep happiness cannot exist without slowing down to enjoy the joy. It’s easy in a world of wild stimuli and omnipresent movement to forget to embrace life’s enjoyable experiences. When we neglect to appreciate, we rob the moment of its magic. It’s the simple things in life that can be the most rewarding if we remember to fully experience them.
10. Commit to your goals. – Being wholeheartedly dedicated to doing something comes fully-equipped with an ineffable force. Magical things start happening when we commit ourselves to doing whatever it takes to get somewhere. When you’re fully committed to doing something, you have no choice but to do that thing. Counter-intuitively, having no option – where you can’t change your mind – subconsciously makes humans happier because they know part of their purpose.
11. Practice spirituality. – When we practice spirituality or religion, we recognize that life is bigger than us. We surrender the silly idea that we are the mightiest thing ever. It enables us to connect to the source of all creation and embrace a connectedness with everything that exists. Some of the most accomplished people I know feel that they’re here doing work they’re “called to do.”
12. Take care of your body. – Taking care of your body is crucial to being the happiest person you can be. If you don’t have your physical energy in good shape, then your mental energy (your focus), your emotional energy (your feelings), and your spiritual energy (your purpose) will all be negatively affected. Did you know that studies conducted on people who were clinically depressed showed that consistent exercise raises happiness levels just as much as Zoloft? Not only that, but here’s the double whammy… Six months later, the people who participated in exercise were less likely to relapse because they had a higher sense of self-accomplishment and self-worth.
I've seen this article before, but a friend just posted this on Facebook and tagged me... so I thought I'd share. :)

Dramatic Guy Friends
Sometimes being the only girl on an all guy circle of friends can be cool, but at times it can be a pain in the ass.
Despite what you've heard, guys can be just as catty and dramatic as girls. Heh. But I love them all the same time.

It's December Already
Oh I can't believe it's December already. Time really flies so fast! This year has been the fastest, though I cannot say it's the best since my bf left to work for Pampanga. It has been a year that we're not together. Anyway, I just got an SMS from him this morning that he's going home for Christmas, but I don't think he can make it on our friend's wedding day, which is on December 28, 2009. I just so hope he's staying and spend the new year here. Oh hey I'm not complaining that this isn't the best year for me, what I'm really trying to say is.. the year 2009 has been good to me.
So, right now.. I'm making a list for Christmas presents. Oh what to give, what to give? :D

On The Go
Now that I have a some time to actually sit down and catch up on everything in the internet world, especially to work on this blog that I have been neglecting recently... my feet are starting to hurt a little bit from being constantly on the go. I am not complaining, it was all FUN on the go!

Busy Bee
Such a long time! I've been busier than a bee, though I am currently unemployed. There are stuff that I do online that has been keeping me frenzied with. Also, I am going back to school. so I will be busier as hell. Today is a Holiday.. it's Independence Day, and I find the day so slow.
Well, I hate to keep this short but just thought i stop in and say "hi".

Friend List Cleanup
Oh just a quick update today. I went through my friends list, on the social network sites I'm a member of and deleted some people, yes, yes. LOL! Only people that I don't like, and those that I do not really know personally. They are not doing anything bad at all to me, I just feel like I need to refresh my list. And some of their updates kinda annoy me that I would just get rid of of them.
On another note:
I am feeling better now, I had been sick for the past few days. Still feeling a little bit gross but I shall survive. Haaahh!

To Move Out
I am feeling like I am getting that bug again. After a certain amount of time, I cannot live in this city for too long now. I get bored. I want to go somewhere else. I think it is that time again... whether that is healthy or not. I am just planning though.. and this is making me feel better. My tentative plan is in June. Heh. :p
Alright, that is it for now. Off to bed lovelies!

Being Grateful For What I Have In Life
I was looking for my Passport in my room and found this sticker quote:
Be Yourself.
Make your own rules.
Don't follow the followers.
Friends that hold you back ain't your friends.
That really is a good one and so true. One that I have lived by for years. So I just thought I'd share it. :)

To Update More
I think I have been neglecting this blog already, hehehe. So, i am thinking that maybe I need to refresh this blog, update, and change my template. And that can be done within this week. My work is keeping me from updating my blogs. It's always all work, no play for me.
It has been a rough day. I'm hitting the sack now. Good night!

If I Won The Lottery
I am not really sure what I would do with myself if I was not worried about money. I have a lot of bills to pay! Ugh. I actually earn big with the company I work with, and just last month I got my huge tax refund, but then again I had to use that for paying my bills. I am single with no dependents, I always have a huge deduction on my tax. I can't be the head of the family (as my friend suggests) because my Mom is working with government. So... next week, I will be getting my sick leave credits, and that will be converted to cash, but that is intended for my other bills. whew! When will this ever end?
Bills, bills, bills are eating me up. If I won the lottery, I would really use it to pay my bills, go on vacation and deposit the rest in the bank and would just live by the interest it would gain. :p

Sleep is:
- that time where you close your eyes
- to dream about tommorow
- to forget about tonight
- where your memories become truth

My Mantra For a Happy Life
I want to live in a happy and productive life rather than run after it. I was actually lying on my bed when this whirls on my mind. I know this is easy to say and hard to do, but I still want to share this with you.
My mantra for a happy life:
I will keep this in mind always. Oh.. i better go back to sleep now.
My mantra for a happy life:
- Believe in yourself. For some reason, I felt like I lack self-confidence before. But this has changed when I started working with international clients for almost 4 years now. (that's with different companies). But before I applied for my job 4 years ago with a company that was run by foreigners based here in Iloilo City, Philippines, I felt like I didn't measure up in the international community. WRONG. Because many times, I have something more to offer. I adapt really easily and always rise up from life's blows. Just like some other Filipinos working abroad, most of them are educated, honest, hard-working and are warm people.
- Learn. Even if I'm already 28, I still need to learn. From evertything that happens -- good or bad, and every challenges life throws at me. I still need to find the best in it and learn.
- Never lose sight of life's joys. My favorite place in the world would still be the Philippines at Christmas! The feeling of celebration, hope and joy. Being with the family and loved ones on Christmas always make me believe that life is great. Plus, Christmas in the Philippines starts in September hehehe what a celebration. :p
- Just keep going. And going..and going. What I want, I can get. Because I will.
I will keep this in mind always. Oh.. i better go back to sleep now.

How To Relieve Stress
The past few weeks has been so stressful to me. So i would often divert my attention to my "comfort foods", and that's the reason why I gained 5 pounds already. I binged when I am stressed out. I know know I am not the only one who deals with stress -- we all deal with it. Whether be it our family life, work, relationships, friends and finances. But don't sweat because there are really a lot of ways to deal with stress. And just yesterday.. I thought of ways on how to relieve stress, and I can assure you it will work for you too.
So don't ever try to hurt others to feel better. Nah-ah.
- Laugh. Ah.. the power of humor. Crack some jokes with your friends, even if it's corny. Remember, laughter is the best medicine.. and it's contagious!
- Light a scented candle. The glow and warmth of scented lit candles add peace and joy in my room. Vanilla-scented candle works best for a relaxing experience.
- Make a gratitude blog. If you don't have one, start now. Or if not, then update your old-fashioned diary. Because you have something to be thankful for each day, and it reminds you that life is beautiful! And believe me, sooner than you think.. your gratitute entry will be overflowing with the subtle and evident joys of life.
- Write thank-you notes. Start spreading your gratitude to the people who love and bless you. People are surprised and moved by a simple "thank you" card because appreciation is so rare these days. So, be a giver of "thanks", and you will find more appreciation coming your way.
- Drink Green Tea. Hot green tea, that is. Because it calms and soothes your body and your spirit. Sipping this drink not only warms you, but it also boosts your immune system because it is packed with antioxidants.
- Display Childhood Photos. If you have a blog, then make an album or a page that could let you post your childhood photos online. Or try some image hosting sites that are available on the internet. This will bring you back wonderful memories and calm your spirits. If you want to have them displayed at home or in your office, keep them in pretty frames on your desk or your bedside table. Ah.. the power of nostalgia.
So don't ever try to hurt others to feel better. Nah-ah.
